Charlton appointed as new Whitehaven head coach

Gary Charlton has been named the new head coach of Whitehaven after Carl Forster left the club after the 2018 campaign.

Charlton has an experienced background coaching Cumbrian sides, having been the head coach of Whitehaven’s closest and dearest rivals Workington Town in 2009.

He takes over from Forster who was appointed last week the coach of the Rochdale Hornets,  who at the weekend pulled off a ‘great escape’ on the final day of the Championship season to secure their place in the second flight of British rugby league.

Whitehaven chairman Tom Todd had the following to say:

“For me he was the stand-out candidate,” said Todd.
“He will bring a no-nonsense approach to the club, which is good.
“And obviously his pedigree is rugby league is excellent. He did a good job at Workington Town and he is well known and respected in the amateur game.
“We hope that he can help us build bridges with the amateur clubs.
